If you’ve been around here awhile, you know that I am not the most creative of people. I like lists and order and only occasionally got outside of my typical comfort zone when it comes to what I wear. Which is why I have a few “never fail” outfit formulas! Now, if that sounds like utter death to your creative brain, I get it- some people don’t need a “go-to”, but for the rest of us……….read on for a no-fail date night outfit formula.

In it’s simplest form it’s black bottoms (jeans, pants, skirt, dressy shorts…) + light or printed silky camisole or v- neck blouse + leather jacket (or blazer) + heels + small, dressy handbag + feminine jewelry. From there you could add a million different variations: A scarf, a statement belt, SO.MANY. shoe options, so many handbag options, etc.

My faux leather jacket is seriously so. dang. good! It’s heavyweight and looks and feels like real leather. I’ve had this one for over 2 years and it is so easy to care for. I get a ton of wear out of this little wardrobe staple! (Still a few sizes left on major sale!)

If you don’t currently own a silky camisole or V- neck blouse, you are in luck because they are incredibly popular right now so there are LOADS of design options. I’m wearing a v-neck silky blouse, so that I can wear a regular bra, but if you have a smaller bust I would definitely go with one of the camisoles with pretty detailing or an animal print.

It is definitely closed-toe season in Colorado right now, so I’m wearing Vince Camuto booties for my heels with this outfit. But you could easily pair with a basic open-toed sandal, tall boots, or over the knee boots for a different look.

My little bracelet bag is from Henri Bendel in a snake print, but any small dressy clutch or shoulder bag will work perfectly for your date-night outfit! Add some dainty jewelry and you are out the door and ready for dinner and drinks!

Do you have a “go-to” formula for a date night outfit? For any of your outfits? Maybe you have a good, always-reliable black dress? I think it makes life easier to have a few “go-to’s” that you can always rely on to look good when you something last minute comes up. It helps me tremendously- especially since the older I get the longer it seems to take me to get ready, LOL!
