Our Family Halloween Party: Eyeball Subs, Cobwebs and a Movie Under the Stars
If you’re hosting some fun friends or family in your life this October, here’s all the family Halloween party ideas and how we pulled it together.
A while back my sister and I threw this Halloween Party for our niece and nephew and it was one of those things that started out as a simple idea, but just grew and grew because we were having so much fun with it!
First of all, have a quick look at spooky table. We were temporarily in Virginia renovating our home there.

Bags of this “Cob web” material is a no brainer to spread around everywhere inside and out! We made good use of giant spiders outside on the house as well as a few packs of black plastic spiders and a pack of snakes to spread around. For a table cloth I used a large piece of this gauze. And we got a pack of these witches hats to suspend with fishing line from the ceiling. Get these 3m hooks to hang them from the ceiling without any damage. I LOVE these black bats! A skull, a few chalkboard tomb stones, some candles for the table, and some black plates. If I throw another Halloween party I will definitely get one of these life sized skeletons!
Our Make-Ahead Plan
The secret to enjoying your own Halloween party is doing most of the work before anyone rings the doorbell. Here’s how we split it up, so the day of the party is mostly assembly and fun.
A few days before: Decor goes up first. The witch hats, bats, tombstones and gauze tablecloth can all go up early. This was all super fun and I could pull all that together myself. Make sure you have enough platters & trays for your items and you can makee the little place cards that describe each dish.
The day before: This is the baking day. We made the witch-finger cookies and the popcorn-ball brains and stored them in airtight containers. The dip got mixed and went into the fridge, where the flavor only gets better overnight. We also carved the shrunken apple heads / assembled the pastry intestines and pot pies and refrigerated them so they could go straight into the oven.
The day of: Bake the pot pies and pastry intestines so they come out warm. Build the eyeball subs and tacos about an hour before guests arrive, so the bread doesn’t go soggy. Warm the cider last, float the apple heads, and you’re done.

I used premade sugar cookie dough for the witches fingers, and almonds dipped in red food coloring for the fingernails.

The Creepy Eye pot pies were made using frozen pot pies, and then taking a piece of refridgerated pie crust, and shaping it around a black olive. Then add a smidge of mayo under the eye for extra gruesomeness!

The “Bloody Intestines” (One of my personal favorites), was made with chorizo sausage and philo dough! You can find the full recipe here.

The “Brains” were popcorn balls, tinted pink and then shaped into brain shapes, with red jam piped down the middle.
No Halloween Party is complete without shrunken heads!
This is SO great! The shrunken heads are made with apples that you put in a warm oven to brown them a bit. You can find the details here.

We transformed our fall porch into a Halloween porch by hanging witches hats, bats, cob webs and some creepy spiders!

Happy Halloween! After the party my sister set up a late night movie night outside! SUCH a cool idea, and she’s been doing it for all the nieces and nephews since my kiddos were little! Watching The Labyrinth of course! A perfect ending to our Halloween Party!

I hope you enjoyed seeing how we pulled off our Halloween Party! Have you seen any cool Halloween ideas? There are some very creative people out there!
