The Jade Roller: What You Need To Know

Have you used the overly Instagrammed device known as the jade roller? I received one from Go Pure (whose potent yet affordable products I continue to be obsessed with), and I have to admit- I sort of threw it into my “try this” drawer and kind of forgot about it. But being the slave to all things beauty related that I am, I eventually pulled out the little ancient Chinese beauty secret and with the bitter skepticism you’ve come to expect here, I gave it a whirl. Fast forward to today- I use it every day, sometimes twice a day so let me share with you what this little tool actually does and why I am a fan.

The Jade Roller: Everything you need to know.

Using Jade is a part of Chinese traditional medicine, so if you are into the power of crystals and such, you will love this component of the jade roller. Jade is thought to be a stone with healing and protective properties and was/is used to combat fatigue.

The jade roller has a couple of different effects when used on the skin. Like most things related to skin care, that have stood the test of time…..it’s utterly basic- but it just works!

The jade roller de-puffs, helps with lymphatic drainage and basically gives your tired, over worked facial muscles a welcomed massage.

The face holds a lot of tension, which is one of the causes those fine lines we’re always trying to minimize. Using a jade roller helps to release that tension! The other benefit is that if you use it just after applying your serums, it can help them absorb into the skin better simply by occlusion. Anything that we can do to get the skin care ingredients that we put on our face, actually INTO the skin before evaporation, is a real plus so this little tool is a win-win.

And it feels amazing, which is the real reason that I was able to add this to my skincare routing so easily……..I look FORWARD to it.

The first time I used it I was like “I don’t know if this is doing anything……..but I kind of don’t want to stop.” My tired face always looks and feels better after using it. Especially when I started keeping the jade roller in the fridge. It really “perks up” the look of your dull skin.

How to Use the Jade Roller

On clean skin, apply a thin serum or oil. I use it right after applying my Go Pure Vitamin C and Hyaluronic Acid.

Your lymph nodes are like little filters to help drain harmful stuff found in your lymphatic fluid. They are all over your body, including your face and neck. Without going into any detail here, let’s just say you REALLY WANT your lymphatic system to be healthy and in motion.

With this in mind use your jade roller starting by the base of the nose and roll outward toward the outside of the face and hairline. Roll about 3 times in a row, using light pressure, before moving onto the next section of your face.

Always rolling up and outward, imagining gently moving the lymphatic fluid toward the outside of the face where it will drain.

Use the small end to roll under and on the sides of the eyes. Always moving away from the center.

You can do your neck, but do it in a downward motion. Again, think “drainage”.

If you keep it in the fridge, and give a few leisurely rolls under the eyes in the AM, it’s a great depuffer for the ole’ eye bags.

It takes about 3 minutes and it’s veryspa- like” and relaxing. Will you look like Kylie Jenner after you use it? Probably not. But you will notice that you look less puffy and it has a brightening effect (probably because of the coolness).

And it just feels so damn good. So yeah- I’m a jade roller…… I roll.

A Few Tips on Purchasing a Jade Roller

There are a LOT of man-made ones out there now. Look, I don’t know if there’s anything to the Chinese medicine attributes but I sure as hell don’t want to miss out if there are! So, thats going to be a big “no” on the cheap-o glass ones. Look for one that says it’s made from natural stone because if it’s good enough for Chinese Emperors it’s good enough for me.

The one from Go Pure is real jade stone and is the best quality I’ve found. It retails for $19.91 and don’t forget, you can use my code FRESHAIRANDFALSELASHES10 for 10% off your entire purchase.

I dare you to find a real jade roller for less than that! You can check it out here—-> Shop Go Pure Jade Roller

The Jade Roller. Everything you need to know!

I will continue my jade rolling labor because God knows I can use all the help I can get in releasing my facial tension as my furrowed forehead will attest. Not to mention the little guy looks so pretty lying there on the side of my sink just waiting to roll away my wrinkle producing woes that I’ve become a true jade rolling devotee.

Give it a whirl- it’s undoubtedly one of the most affordable and pleasant anti- aging procedures you’ll try in 2019!

Well you are right about these little tools being on IG and everywhere. Thanks for the info. I use a microneedle roller, but I’m about ready to take the plunge and add one of these in too. I actually was telling my mom about them the other day. XO
