Given the name of this blog, it probably comes as no surprise that lashes are something I take seriously. I’ve been on a lash quest for most of my adult life, and if you’re reading this, you probably know exactly what I mean — SO let’s discuss lashes over 50 because somewhere around 50 years of age, mascara stopped being enough for me.

I’m going to tell you what finally worked. And what I know now that I wish I’d known six years ago.

Why Lashes Change After 50 (And Why Nothing Else Was Working)

Around 45, my lashes started doing something I found a tad devastating. They thinned. They shortened. They lost curl. I’d wake up and feel a little reptilian looking back at me in the mirror — which is a jarring thing when you’ve always considered your eyes one of your best features.

How to apply Lashify lashes

The application is different from most things on the market — and that difference is exactly why it works so well on mature eyes.

You brush a small amount of bond onto your natural lashes, then press the gossamer clusters underneath them using the wand. They sit under your natural lashes, not on top of them. No visible band. Nothing touching your eyelid skin. Once they’re on, you genuinely can’t feel them.

For women over 50, this under-lash application matters. There’s no band pressing into the skin above your lash line, no tugging at mature or thinner lid skin. Since they don’t touch your skin, you can’t feel them at all after they’re applied. The whole look is softer and more natural as a result.

How Long do Lashify lashes last?

About a week per application. I do a quick press with the wand in the morning to make sure everything is secure, and sometimes a corner needs a tiny bit of reattachment — but that takes twenty seconds. For women who are used to getting professional extensions every few weeks, this is genuinely liberating. One application, one week, done. (Pro Tip: You can get more wear out of them w/ gentle handling and a soak in rubbing alcohol in between uses.)

Will Lashify damage natural mature lashes over 50?

In my experience: no. After nearly six years of daily wear, my natural lashes are in good shape. The bond stays flexible — it never dries hard — which I think is a big part of why removal is gentle. The key is using the bond sparingly. A little goes a very long way. Don’t coat your lashes the way you would mascara. They also sell an extra strength bond that also remains flexible, which really gives you a set ’em and forget ’em application.

How Do You remove Them?

By the end of the week, they lift off fairly easily on their own. I use micellar water rather than Lashify’s dedicated remover — works perfectly well. If there’s any residue, a double cleanse takes care of it. After removing, I place them in a small dish of rubbing alcohol, let them soak, and they can be re-used at least once more.

What Styles Should I Start With?

Start with A10s or A12s. I use A12s for everyday — they’re full but natural-looking. For a more done up look, B12s are where I go. Don’t get overwhelmed by all the options when you first land on the site; they’re addictive once you get the hang of it, but the A-series is the most wearable starting point for mature eyes.

What’s The Most economical Way To Use Lashify?

A Few Things I’ve Learned After Six Years

On the water poof sealant: They didn’t offer this when I started, so I haven’t made it part of my routine. Without it, I just wash carefully around my lashes rather than soaking them. Water doesn’t ruin them, but extended soaking will cause some lifting sooner than the week is up.

On the pre-lash cleanse product: I skip it and use micellar water. Works beautifully.

On the bond: White goes on, dries clear. Don’t panic the first time you apply it.

On cost per use: When I break down what I’ve spent on Lashify versus what I used to spend on professional extensions, the savings are significant. And the time savings — not scheduling appointments, no time in a salon every few weeks — that part I value almost as much as the money.
