Skincare over 50; What’s Working

I turned 50 a few months ago and I wanted to do an updated post on my current skincare routine and what’s been working for me. I’ve swapped out some things and I’ve added a few new products to my lineup and I have to say- I’m pleased with the results. Don’t get me wrong- if there’s a surgeon out there who wants to give me a facelift…..well girls, I’ll be all over that like dots on dice. (Do you HEAR that, cosmetic surgeons?……I AM HERE FOR YOU.) But alas- until then- I’ll remain a slave to my skincare routine and I continue to be a little bit of a geek when it comes to researching ingredients, etc. I solemnly promise to continue to approach each and every product with the bitter skepticism that you’ve come to expect from me. So let’s dive right in with what skincare over 50 has been looking like.

Cleanser

I continue to search for the perfect double cleanse. These are good- but not perfect, so I’m still searching for perfection. (Leave me suggestions in the comments if you have any!)

I use the Clinique Take The Day Off Balm to take off most of my makeup. It’s an emollient balm that turns into a milky cleanser when it comes in contact with water. It is extremely gentle, does a good job and doesn’t irritate my eyes. I take that off with my super soft cloth from Amazon. (Love these.) Then I use my Cera Ve moisturizing cleanser to take off anything that might remain. Not loving this as much as I used to- I’m not sure if they’ve changed the formula but it does occasionally irritate my skin now. I take that off with the same cloth.

Now- HERE is where I should insert a toner, but I haven’t been- so hit me up with your recommendations. Also- if you have any thoughts on micellar water I’d love to hear them!

Magical Serums

I continue to use the Vitamin C serum from Go Pure. SO.DANG. GOOD! All of their serums are such great quality for the price! I highly recommend them. Just a few drops across my face and neck.

I’ve been using the Regeneration Boost by JanMarini Skincare for about 5 weeks and lawdy gals- I’m a believer. What this has done for my fine lines in such a short amount of time is incredible. I only use one pump for my whole face and neck. I received this as a gift from Jan Marini, but I guess I’ll have to start skipping meals or something, because I’m afraid I can’t live without it. (Below, I’ve linked a retailer where you can get it greatly discounted, just click the photo).

Moisturizers

I am still using Korean beauty products from the SMD Cosmetics line. One pump, across my whole face and neck and then the eye cream in the same line. Again- this is such high quality skin care. The eye cream has blown me away, so I will be re-purchasing that.

When I use up the moisturizer, I think I will be going back to my Bio Recept. It’s just so dry here in Colorado, and I feel like this has served me very well over the years. It’s from Paris and you can only get it here in the US. But it’s like a pot of emollient gold for the skin. You can read more about that here. I’ve got my mom hooked on it too!

For my neck, I’m still using the Triple Firming Neck Cream by Neostrata. It’s the only thing that I’ve used that seems to help, but dang I’ve got a neck situation going on over here! I also tried the tightening cream by City Beauty, for over 4 weeks but cannot recommend it.

Sunscreen

Currently using an oil-free spf 40 by Glo Skin Beauty. It’s great under makeup and doesn’t irritate my eyes.

Other Gems in Skincare over 50

I am HOOKED on these gold under eye masks by Wander Beauty for nights when we are going out later or for when I just look extra tired. LOVE them!

Facial hair is for real girls. šŸ˜‰ I get these little guys from Amazon and use one every few weeks. It removes any facial hair as well as giving you a nice, at home dermaplaning effect (Not as good as having a professional do it, but it makes a huge difference!). And no- your hair will not grow back in thicker or darker.

Of course in the evening, the very epitome of a good skincare over 50 regime must contain some sort of retinol or Tretinoin. I continue to use my formulation by Curology and this has, hands down, made the biggest difference in the look of my skin. I use it immediately after cleansing in the PM.

I hope that you found this helpful. Overall I am extremely happy with the look of my skin at 50. Let me know in the comments if you’ve found anything that you’ve been loving! And do consider pinning this to Pinterest for others in the over 50 skincare game! As always if you ever want to refer back to anything that I’ve referenced here on the blog or on IG, you can always do so through the “Shop” tab here on the blog or through the LiketoKNOWit app.

Thank you so much for reading and don’t forget to follow me over on the gram and on FB where I overshare and chat too much. šŸ˜‰

You look great. Totally don’t need any plastic surgery. I’ve been using the moisturizer and facial serum from Dr Gundry and the texture of my whole face, neck and chest has changed for the better. I can’t enough about these two additions to my skincare routine. (His site’s a little spammy though, which is annoying).

Thank you Julie! And I’ve never heard of Dr Gundry. I love checking out all the skincare stuff- I’ve learned a lot about ingredients and what works well for me over the years. I’m definitely checking it out because you have beautiful skin.

Your skin seriously looks amazing! Taking care of your skin is so essential to beauty and hygiene. I love this Japanese oil cleanser (I linked it down below) from Amazon. I’ve been using it for a couple years and it’s effective and affordable! I’ve heard good things about the Clinique balm, but I haven’t tried it yet
